    This great and I get the "all on one track in the spirit of fun and experimentation" BUT TBH, I think it'd be really cool to use that Altec with all it's tone and compression with a few more mics for just the drums and record that de-tuned guitar to it's own track. It'd give some more flexibility in the mix and still be old school and funky. Props for going it raw tho!

    I was very glad to stumble across this since I am newly getting into rtr. I have always had rtr's but they were just little portable jobs. One thing I was not aware of was all of the different forms of tape degredation. Gene's website is great for delving into each type. I have a tape that came with the player I recently bought and it immediately gummed up the heads. I quickly learned the hard way what sticky shed is. If you are just getting into rtr, get as much information as you can, it will save you some heartache and possibly help you save some old tapes instead of assuming they are bad and chucking them out.

    "Night Clouds" .... a shame that Pittsburgh's Terry Lee is not alive to hear that, and play it on his nightly "Music For Young Lovers" AM radio program. "Little Girl" also has a distinctly Pittsburgh mid-1960s vibe. Check out tracks by The Fantastic Dee-Jays; for proto-punk listen to The Swamp Rats. That's the music that got me thru high school in one piece!

    I love my little bedroom studio. It's been a work in progress for about 3 years but it's ready now. I still use 3 1990's Tascam 424MKII 4-track's then mix and master them down to CD. I took everything out and started with soundproofing even though like you I have never had any complaints from my neighbor's and I live in an apartment complex. It's cramped because I have 8 guitar's, 7 amplifier's, 5 keyboard's along with a full set of drums and various other equipment. But also like you I live alone and enjoy the fact that if I feel like writing, recording or anything else the only thing I try to be careful with is not disturbing my neighbors. However my studio is in a room that sits by itself and I have cranked up the volume and walked outside and never heard a thing so I guess my soundproofing paid off. But like you I could use more space! Love your channel and keep doing what you're doing. I've recorded at some big time studio's but I get a very professional sound with what I have. Love the Beatles stuff too!

    The 1176 is one of my ATF pieces of gear. You can literally run any recording through it and it will come out sounding better on the other end. Also, you can pick up a Rode or Audio-Technica condenser mic for pretty cheap, and they sound great. My $0.02. Keep up the good work. Love the channel.

    The sound is very authentic and retro, congrats! But your time-machine seems to have landed closer to the 60's rather than the 50's. This kind of reverb-foggy sound became popular in the 60's. In the 50's productions usually sounded way more clear and transparent and at the same time less trebly. Back then the electric guitar almost NEVER strummed full 6-string-chords like that. Less drum-rolls and less cymbal/crash-stuff and no Tambourin also would help reducing that 60's vibe - but then again: Your song sounds really great the way it is. Just not very 50's ...

  • @Fitzliputzli23
    @Fitzliputzli23 Місяць тому

    I owned this late 60s Twin Reverb (the one with the additional master volume) for decades - finally sold it. Best sounding part was the spring-reverb. But the overall sound was way to clean, way to bright. Unless you want to play Surf stuff, maybe some Rockabilly or classic R'n R it is not very usefull. When you want to enter crunchy territory use a different amp. Plus: It ruins your backbone.

    I've been collecting gear like crazy the last several years. It's a noble pursuit I think. It's not like it won't have value later, and likely will rise in value. The hardest thing for me is when I run into a deal but I'm broke. I absolutely hate that. I'm sure we all do. Sometimes I worry about buying just because it's a good deal, but not because I need it just now. But a good deal is a good deal, so my gear priorities are fluid.
